OAKRIDGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
LEARNING CONTINUITY PLAN
COVID Response Blended Learning
Blended Learning is Oakridge International School’s response to the current Corona Virus Pandemic. To ensure the safety and well being of our students, Oakridge International School has prepared a Blended Program where students will continue to get quality education despite the current situation through Online Teaching, Self directed learning and Teacher consultation.
Flow of Learning and Teaching
- Offline learning packets are made available to learners with limited or lacking connectivity or device. These learning packets are to be delivered to (through local delivery additional charge ) or picked up from OIS. Parents and guardians are required to communicate with homeroom teachers for deliveries.
- All learners will be enrolled in a Learning Management System appointed by the School. The LMS makes the online learning community organized. This is where learners access resources, submit assessments and engage with fellow learners and teachers.
- Online classes can be done through Zoom or within the LMS. The online learning community has components that support teaching and learning.
- Scholastics Literacy Pro Library will be made available to all students in Kindergarten to Grade 10 to ensure the continuity of reading across all levels. Scholastics Literacy Pro Library is a growing library of fiction and non-fiction e-books. Through LitPro, the students may take the Lexile Test at the beginning of the school year to determine their current reading comprehension level.
- We will also be offering Scaffolded Reading which will support student’s independent reading. For Grades 3-10, online assessment of reading comprehension skills will be accessed through Prime Reading Comprehension Skills Assessment. Highschool students can access online library sources for research work.
- Face-to-face classes will be allowed upon the approval of IATF and DepEd only when the local risk severity grading permits and when minimum health standards are complied with. During in-person classes, the school shall observe the gradual roll-in of learners. The number of learners attending classes shall be limited at every given time.
*The number of learners in every classroom shall be significantly reduced to 11-12 learners or adjusted based on the what the IATF and DepEd will allow.
Role of Teachers
-deliver class instruction
-prepare effective lessons
-mentor
-model
-assess learning
-academic support
-communicate and offer feedback
Role of Parents
Having been supportive and collaborative for the past school years, your role this school year doesn’t need extra talent or skill. Continuity of this partnership and collaboration will suffice as we implement the new approach to teaching and learning. Rest assured that, as a parent, you are the best teacher your children could have. No one knows your children better than you. No one knows their strengths and weaknesses as well as you. No one has seen their successes and failures, their ups and downs, their joys and despair, as you have. And no one loves them as much as you.
You’ll be pleased to know that the key to a sound education doesn’t rely on the formal educational background of the parent or on the parent being a state-certified teacher. Rather, it relies on the parents’ natural ability to nurture and raise their children and to instill a love of learning within them.
- reconnecting with your child
By being a part of your child’s education, you naturally connect. By learning together, reading together, playing games together, and going on simple, relaxing outings together, you build experiences that bring you and your children closer. The learning experiences that are woven into each day are like threads of yarn connecting you and your children, forming a strong bond that unites the whole family.
- listening instead of instructing
The parent who listens to his child is a wise parent. Keep in mind that listening does not mean taking orders from your child. When you truly listen to your child’s conversations, you hear what’s on her mind, where her thoughts are, where her interests lie, what she would like to do in her life today, and what she would like out of life tomorrow. Children experience thousands of thoughts and feelings each day. Some are more important than others, yet none is inconsequential. It’s these types of daily thoughts and feelings that lead to further discussions, questions, explorations, and, ultimately, to greater learning. Your child feels valued when you listen to her.
- reduce stress
A relaxed child learns more easily than a stressed child. Some studies show that stress inhibits the formation of new neurons in the brain. Dr. Carla Hannaford, biologist and educational consultant, states, “Chronic exposure to stress inhibits full brain development.” This can result in learning problems, such as ADD (attention deficit disorder), ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder), or behavioral problems.
- An efficient organization system allows your child’s learning to run more smoothly. When you declutter your space, you also declutter your mind. This in turn frees up more time for fun, creative activities with your family. Your organization system should work for you and your family’s needs, not the other way around. Look at the way you use the space in your home, determine how it could work better for your family, then put these tips to use.
Role of Students
Children are natural learners. Learning is an integral part of their lives, woven throughout the hours that make up each day. As they go about their normal lives, they encounter, gather, process, and grow from the information they naturally absorb. This is learning.
Through blended learning, students are expected to go through the assigned tasks – watch videos made by teachers, read materials assigned by teachers, research and answer seatworks and quizzes with minimal supervision.
Teenagers may be mature enough to self-direct their education, update daily learning logs, and keep themselves on track. They should be familiar with the routine, grasp concepts fairly quickly, or be able to complete lessons with less supervision than a younger child. Give them more responsibility for their studies, then evaluate their response to this challenge.

Rules and Discipline
-time management
One of the most important keys to success is flexibility in the schedule. There will be days when things don’t go smoothly or according to schedule. You might even find that several weeks go by in which the learning process simply isn’t progressing as planned. Don’t worry or allow yourself to panic or become stressed. This is merely an indication that you need to look more closely at your child’s learning style and your family’s lifestyle, and try a different approach.
-schedule
setting a structured schedule is one of the key to successful learning program. following it requires discipline and commitment from both parents and students. thus, it will be beneficial when you include your child in the decision making when it comes to making their daily schedule
Goal-setting is the key to time management. Each weekend, decide the five most important things you want to accomplish in the upcoming week, and write them down. You have five days ahead of you to accomplish those five goals. Cross one off each day, or cross two off one day and one off the next. However you want to handle it, try to accomplish and cross off your five goals at some point during that week. Do this each week, and you’ll be surprised at how much you are capable of accomplishing.
-free time
Allow “free time” each day for kids to explore their own areas of interest, before or after their study time. Free time provides time for arts, crafts, games, reading, hobbies, and other creative projects.
-peak learning time
Some people are morning larks. Others are night owls. Some prefer to get right to work first thing in the morning, then enjoy their afternoons with a clear conscience of a good day’s work already done. Some savor the relaxation of quiet morning hours, then rev up for excitement and activity in the late afternoon and evening hours. Children also experience peak hours throughout their day. Some are still groggy and sleepy-eyed at 10:00 A.M. Others are bouncing on the beds and throwing balls around the room at 5:00 A.M. Some can’t seem to focus well until late afternoon, while others are ready for lessons at 7:00 A.M. You can see what a difficult time these children would have focusing and learning if they were in school between 8:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. Peak learning times are also influenced by sleep habits and by food that is consumed.
-nutrition
Studies on nutrition and brain function have shown that poor nutrition or meal skipping can impair a child’s mental and physical performance. As you prepare nutritious meals for your family, educate children on the importance of a well-balanced diet and healthy snacks—lessons that will ensure a long and healthy life.
Perfect Learning Pace
The time you spend on learning activities will depend on your child and her abilities and attention span. In this Blended Learning Program, learning will take place according to your child’s development and pace. Thus, parents are advised to loosen up, give structure, but allowmyour children to grow at their own pace.
Submission of Requirements
Submission of assigned tasks will be done through online (email and LMS). But there will be activities and projects which will be needed to be brought to school by parents. For remote learning, implementation of quizes and exams are home-based and self-managed. These assessments are authentic tasks that measure the learner’s proficiency in terms of the competencies. Thus, we request parents to refrain from teaching or helping your children during this formative assessment to ensure the validity of the test.
Tests and measurements
teachers will be incharge of assessing their student’s learning according to rubrics and standards. assessment of learning can be done through the following:
quizes (online and eventually face to face)
writeups
research work
diagnostic test
standardize test
exams
projects
